The God we serve - Wow, that is a topic I could go on about for days and days! It plays into everything about my life and how I live. As we were deciding who all would do devotions each day for the Thai women who live with us, no one really wanted to do Monday morning (as we were deciding on Sunday night). Well, being self-sacrifial in the most prideful sense of the word, I raised my hand to accept. To be honest, I was not pleased with the upcoming task; in fact, I was downright irritated. I mean, who wants less than 24 hours to prepare a 1/2 hour devotional? Not me, no sir, no way - I was grouchy, feeling very self-righteous, and to be plain, not Christ-like. And so the next 11 hours of my life unfold...
We never get to bed before midnight here, so we're all up chatting and hanging out, and I finally fall asleep around 1am. For reasons beyond the scope of this blog, I was up at 3am praying and spending time with Jesus. And as I was, God quietly urged me to begin preparing for my devotional to be given at 8:30 that morning. Earlier that night, I had quick asked God what I should do it on; I've been reading through the Bible (slowly but surely:-) and am now in Isaiah. That day I had read up to Isaiah 39. Well, Isaiah 40 is one of my favorite passages! So God told me to do it on that chapter. So I sat on the 2nd floor of our house at 4 in the morning, and I learned so MUCH. I decided to focus on verses 12-31. I went through each verse and pulled out all the attributes of God that I could find and described how I saw the attributes in that verse. What a blessing and beautiful time in God's Word that was! (ps, my devotional went pretty well and by the time I was giving it, I had a blast and gave all my grouchiness to Jesus - so thankful we serve a forgiving God!).
I learned that the God I serve is ALL-KNOWING, ALL-POWERFUL, CREATOR, BIG, WORTHY, GOD ALONE, SOVEREIGN, EVERLASTING, STRENGTH. And those are (to use God's words:-) - "a drop in the bucket, a small dust in the balance, a very little thing/part" of all the attributes and characteristics of the God we serve!! So go out and start and spend each day aware of how awesome God is - and you serve Him, you and I are made to bring Him glory! And just so you realize - I didn't need to be out on Bangla Rd or doing some amazing ministry to learn these incredible truths about God - I was sitting and praying at 3am. God will find and speak to you wherever you are, whenever you're listening - and if you're willing, I can guarantee you WILL learn something from the One who has ALL wisdom and knowledge.
Once again - thank you so much for all the prayers on our behalf, you cannot begin to understand what a difference they make. You are part of this team!! Blessing on you all.
In Jesus,
Amy<><
