Hello!
My name is Kimberly Mahoney and I just wanted to share with you all a bit about myself and my heart for this mission.
First of all, I attend the University of Nevada, Reno and live here on campus in the dormitories. I thought I had my heart set on a major (interior design and architecture), but you know how that goes... The one thing that I do know for sure though, is that the Lord has given me a heart to help those in need and I cannot wait to see what His plans will be there! Maybe nursing or something with that same level of people interaction. Any suggestions? I attend a church that is part of the Acts 29 Network called Living Stones here in the heart of downtown Reno. There, I am a part of a women's community group held every Monday and serve in the nursery during services every other month where I love on and cuddle with babies for two whole hours (what a joy!). I am also involved with a ministry here on campus called Campus Crusades where we focus on some tools that will help us to shine the light of Christ to the students here on at UNR.
This winter, I pondered what the Lord would send me to do this summer and was not surprised to find tears rolling down my face as I looked into this mission trip to Thailand to help women and children who have found themselves caught up into the sex trade there. As a women myself, it is difficult to imagine a world void of struggles that we as women encounter on a daily basis. We are constantly bombarded with worldly standards that blind our sight from the true love and acceptance that Jesus Christ has won for us. And my heart utterly breaks for these struggles. In Thailand, this tragedy is magnified and intensified, probably close to its extreme. These women and children need Christ; they need to know that they are so loved by our Heavenly Father, made perfect by the work that our Savior has done on the cross. And I cannot wait to share that love, so perfect, reliable, and constant, with the women and children that we will encounter in Thailand!
I look forward to getting to know all of you, my sisters in Christ!
Love,
Kimberly
